Aeromexico Launches Daily Flights Between Tampa and Mexico City
Aeromexico inaugurated its new nonstop service between Tampa International Airport and Mexico City, marking the event with a grand celebration on Monday afternoon. The airline’s first flight into Tampa was met with enthusiasm and festivities, including Mariachi music, a ballet performance, and traditional Mexican treats.
The introduction of this route is significant, as Tampa Bay was previously Aeromexico’s largest unserved market in the United States. With the addition of Tampa, Aeromexico now serves 23 destinations in America, with Tampa being the third in Florida alongside Orlando and Miami.
According to a media release, nearly 80,000 people in the Tampa Bay area are from Mexico, making them the second-largest foreign-born population in the region, following the Cuban community. Airport officials project that the new route will contribute approximately $70 million annually to the local economy.
To commemorate the inaugural flight, passengers enjoyed Aguas Frescas and Mexican pastries at the Tampa terminal. The Tampa City Ballet performed a piece from their show “If I Cry,” which is inspired by the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
The service operates daily using an Embraer E190 aircraft, which accommodates 99 passengers, including 11 seats in a premium cabin. Aeromexico, a founding member of the SkyTeam Alliance along with Delta Air Lines, schedules the flight to depart from Mexico City at 9:55 a.m., arriving in Tampa at 3:15 p.m. The return flight leaves Tampa at 4:36 p.m. and arrives in Mexico City at 6:15 p.m.
