Broward and Palm Beach Counties Home to Nearly a Quarter of Yelp’s Top 100 Florida Restaurants

Yelp, the crowdsourced review site, recently released its list of the “Top 100 Places to Eat in Florida” for 2023, and Broward and Palm Beach counties dominate the rankings with 22 restaurants listed. Pla-Tu Sushi Thai Tapas in South Miami earned the top spot, with 150 five-star reviews, while Pembroke Pines’ Prosecco22 Ristorante Italiano came in third, despite having only 118 reviews and a 4.5-star rating. North South Grill in Pembroke Pines, Gilbert’s 17th Street Grill in Fort Lauderdale, and Larb Thai-Isan in Fort Lauderdale were other notable winners from Broward and Palm Beach counties.

According to a blog post by a Yelp spokesperson, the rankings are based on user reviews from January 1, 2022, to January 1, 2023, and represent “places consumers are loving right now.” The spokesperson also emphasized that the list is “powered by the people, not a small group of restaurant critics.”

While many of the rankings make sense, some restaurants’ placement on the list has left people scratching their heads. For instance, The Rabbit Hole in Pompano Beach, a vegan eatery, earned a perfect five-star rating and 365 reviews but only came in at number 19. Meanwhile, Italian spot Prosecco22 in Pembroke Pines, with fewer reviews and a slightly lower rating, managed to claim the third spot. Similarly, Buccan, a Palm Beach small-plates bistro from multiple James Beard nominee Clay Conley, only ranked number 52 despite having 614 reviews and a 4.5-star rating.

Despite these curious rankings, the list is still a great guide for foodies looking for the best places to eat in Florida. And with 22 restaurants from Broward and Palm Beach counties on the list, it’s clear that these areas are home to some of the state’s most beloved dining establishments.
