New Sunday Market Debuts in St. Pete, Fostering Community and Local Commerce
St. Petersburg residents have something new to look forward to as Tampa Bay Markets introduces the Sunday Market St. Pete, set to kick off this weekend at St. Petersburg High School. The weekly event aims to establish a fresh tradition in the community, offering a diverse marketplace with approximately 75 vendors showcasing fresh produce, baked goods, and locally crafted items.
Greg Barnhill, the director of operations for Tampa Bay Markets, emphasized the goal of supporting individuals with passions to share within the community. The Sunday Market St. Pete provides a platform for vendors who may not have the resources to open brick-and-mortar stores. The event is part of Tampa Bay Markets’ extensive network, which includes nearly 30 markets per month across various locations in the area.
The new venue boasts 600 parking spaces, and Barnhill hopes to attract residents from nearby Kenwood to participate in the market. The emphasis is not only on providing locally-focused products but also on fostering a social atmosphere where community members can connect with their neighbors.
It’s important to note that the Sunday Market St. Pete is distinct from the St. Pete Sunday Market hosted monthly by St. Pete is Super Cool at ArtsXchange in the Warehouse Arts District. The operators of the latter expressed understanding about the confusion among vendors and customers regarding the new market.
Soudabah Moayedi, who runs the St. Pete Sunday Market with her fiancé, acknowledged the challenges of navigating the business landscape. While the new market was unintentionally similar, Greg Barnhill clarified that there was no intention to encroach on the existing monthly market’s territory.
For those interested in attending, the Sunday Market St. Pete will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday starting January 7 at St. Petersburg High School, with the market season extending through May and resuming in the fall. The St. Pete Sunday Market, on the other hand, occurs on the third Sunday of each month at ArtsXchange, with the next market scheduled for January 21.
